This deal consists of a project financing for the acquisition of a fleet of 172 electric buses and the associated recharging infrastructure for the provision of transportation service in six routes of the Fontibon area of Bogota city, Colombia. The Project is developed under a concession contract of 15 years granted to Fontibon ZE S.A.S. (the "Concessionaire") by Transmilenio S.A. (TMSA), the public administrator of the transportation system of the city of Bogota. The Total Project Cost is of ~US$69 million and Total Financing of ~US$59 million, representing a leverage of 85%. The financing structure of the Project is provided 50% from IDB Invest for an amount up to ~COP 93,854 million in conjuction with funds from the United Kingdom Sustainable Program (UKSIP), fund administered by IDB, for an amount of US$ 10 million denominated in colombian pesos; and the remaining 50% of the financing is provided by BNP Paribas for an amount up to ~US$ 29.5 million.The Project replaced diesel-fueled buses with a new electric fleet, decreasing the emissions of Bogota's public transport system and thus contribute to improving the air quality in the city and mitigating climate change. More concretely, between 2022 and 2037, the Project will reduce 94,523 tons of CO2 emissions, 1.24 tons of PM 2.5 emissions, and 1,860 tons of NOx emissions. In addition, the change to electric buses will lead to more efficient use of energy, given that the total cost of the projected electricity consumed by the concession is expected to be significantly lower that the total cost of the diesel consumed in the scenario without the Project, approximately a reduction of 75% or COP 420,000 million in absolute terms.With this Project, Colombia will have the second largest electric bus fleet in the Region behind Santiago de Chile and one of the largest in the World (outside China).
